Three days of top level cycling have ended. The European Championships Track Cycling resulted in several highlights with expected champions and stars-to-be: also on the final day of the event that calls Omnisport in Apeldoorn its home.
The second day of the European Track Cycling Championships in Omnisport Apeldoorn was all about sprinting. In both the women’s and men’s category there was spectacle and host country the Netherlands won another medal.
Gold and bronze for the home squad on the first day of the European Championships Track Cycling in Apeldoorn
`A better start to the tournament was hardly possible. Gold for Kirsten Wild at the point’s race and bronze for the men’s team pursuit.
The most exciting race of the first day was without a doubt the points race for women. Dutch rider Kirsten Wild took the gold medal by beating her main rivals Dani King and Leire Olaberria in the final sprint of the night. Wild took her first big prize of her track career. In 2011 she made her debut with a third place at the World Omnium Championships.
4) Individual pursuit: a four kilometres long race for men and three kilometres for women. A race between two riders who are selected based on their position in the overall after the elimination race.
The Netherlands and the city of Apeldoorn in particular look forward to welcoming you to the 2013 European Championships Track Cycling. With more than 16 million inhabitants and possibly the same amount of bicycles, the Netherlands is a cyclist’s paradise. Our rich cycling tradition also makes the Netherlands the ideal location for this global cycling event, which will be held in an indoor cycling hall in the Netherlands.
